Meet the Makers of OHC: sarah westwood

We thought it was about time to introduce you to the makers behind our fabulous handmade goodies in-store…so, in the next of our Meet the Makers of OHC specials, please say hello to Sarah (and Sprocket) of sarah westwood…

How did you become a designer/maker?

I studied Surface Pattern Design at the University of Huddersfield and after I graduated I carried on drawing and designing for myself and for other companies.

How did you choose your business name and what’s the meaning behind it?

My business name is sarah westwood and that is me but using my maiden name.  Its simple really I started selling by selling my work to Galleries and they liked using my name and not a business name so it just stuck.

Do you run your business full time or balance another job as well?

I run my business full time selling to galleries, fairs, online and to shops throughout the country.

What’s your favourite thing about running your business?

I love meeting new people and I love the challenge of thinking of new ideas for my illustrations especially Sprocket.

Of all the things you’ve ever made, which has been your favourite?

My favourite thing I’ve done constantly changes but recently I’ve been working on a series of illustrations on a coastal theme and I draw a new one each week.  My favourite at the moment is a piece called ‘Yellow submarine’
